Actually, her result was not bad at all. She was not happy because most people also did well in the midterm.
My sister told me that she wanted to get an excellent grade in her class in order to prove that she is an outstanding person. She said that she cannot accept the fact that she is only an average person. Later, she started asking me why she was born as such an average person. (How the hell do I know?) Since this is such a difficult (or stupid) question, I couldn't answer it. She kept bugging me to give her an answer, and I, finally, came up with one for her.
I told her the following:
I was born ugly, but always wanted to become prettier. Thus, I bought myself a bunch of nice clothes and put some make-up on. I found I did look prettier. However, when I compared myself to some really pretty girls, I realized the fact that I am ugly and there is nothing I can do about it.The only way to make myself look pretty is to have plastic surgery.
My
sister's situation is very similiar to the above example. She was born
average, but she always wanted to become smarter. Thus, she studied very
hard. She found she did became smarter. However, when she compared
herself to some really smart people, she (should have) realized the fact
that she is "average" and there is nothing she can do about it. The only
way to make herself smarter is to have a brain transplant.
