Don't get me wrong. I am not a heavy drinker at all. I only go out drinking with my friends about once a month.
Before I went to Hiroshima, I almost didn't drink at all. I remember clearly that there was a farewell party before Mr. J and I went to Japan. Our friends insisted on buying me beers or other alcohol drinks, but I only picked up some soft drinks.
There are a lot of drinking places around the university I went in Japan. Once in a while, there are sale promotions in those drinking places. The beer in those places can be as cheap as about one US dollar per mug. It usually lasts a week. During the promotion, exchange students (including me about 20 people) often went to those places and drank. When we all got drunk, we started chating and singing with other Japanese in the bar. Since those people were also drunk, they did not mind having fun with us (despite most of us were Western people). We had a lot of fun.
I went out drinking with some of my professors too. Among those professors, quite a few of them are heavy drinkers. Everytime they found my glass empty, they poured another glass of beer or sake for me. I had a time to handle it, since I am not very strong at alcohol. Nevertheless, it was fun to go drinking and Karaoke with professors in Japan. I usually did not need to pay, or only pay a little. (^^;)
After I came back from Japan, I miss the "fun" so bad that I have seeked for friends who can go out drinking with me. Unfornately, the only friend who can drink with me is Mr. J. (>_<) My sister likes drinking too. It is just too bad that she is quite weak in alcohol. Moreover, it is almost not possible to go out drinking with professors in Canada. Even though I have gone out drinking for quite a few times after I came back to Canada, it was just not as fun as when I was in Japan.
I don't think I actually like drinking. I go drinking because I want to have fun with my friends. If I am all by myself, I prefer not drinking at all.
To
me, anyone who doesn't like drinking will addict to it, if they stay in
Japan for a short period of time.
